Hunderwasser in Athens

2025.10.26, Greece, Athens

In Athens the Basil and Elise Goulandris Foundation is exhibiting „Chair Painted on All Sides with a Goblin Head on the Chair Seat“, painted by Friedensreich Hundertwasser in Vienna in 1952. The chair is indeed painted on all sides, including the back of the seat, that’s why there’s a mirror underneath.

When I was in Greece for the first time, I saw this chair in the museum, and on an Athenian street I picked up a piece of packaging from a local fast food „Jackaroo“, so the artwork is made from this scrap.

The base of the painting is wooden, like of the chair. To glue the cardboard packaging to the wood, you need to remove the outer glossy layer.
